November Newsletter from Linsey

Dear Friends and Family,

I want to thank you all for supporting my time here at Jefferson Street Baptist Center. As a team, we have received twenty percent of our funds needed for the year. I’m impressed by the change the Lord has made in the lives of not only the shelter’s guests, but ours as well. Your contribution has helped make all of this possible. This week, I’ve been continually reminded of God’s presence in my life. He has taught me that if I do his will, then he will provide for all of my needs. If I stray, like I did for so many years, then his plans for me will never come into fruition.

My birthday was on October 29th and it went far beyond my expectations. Before the actual day of my birthday, I got to go on a surprise trip to Huber Farms and pick a pumpkin, see a movie with my dad that I missed seeing this summer, and eat ice cream cake. Our Father knew what was on my heart and provided for it like no one else could.

On the day of my birthday, which was also Jessica’s birthday, I brought my pumpkin to the shelter for everyone to sign. Guests, residents, team members – anybody willing to scribe his signature on squash. At the end of the day, over thirty people had signed the gourd! And during lunch, a birthday cake complete with candles was brought out and the entire cafeteria sang “Happy Birthday” to us. Instead of making a wish, I praised God for making this week so amazing.

As Thanksgiving approaches, we should remember what we have to be thankful for in our lives. The companionship of friends, the smile on a child’s face, a car to drive to work, a pain-free day, and food to sustain us are all things we take for granted. It’s easy to forget how much we need God when we fail to see what he has done for us. Working at the shelter has unveiled my eyes to all the things I should be grateful for. But above all, we should remember the salvation that Jesus Christ has given us through his ultimate sacrifice.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” – Psalm 107:1

God be with you always,

Linsey Edn
