October Newsletter

Dear Friends and Family,

I have been back in Louisville for 2 weeks and a lot has happened. Arriving here was a little crazy with a wind storm that 2/3 of the city to lose power and also caused my mom to spend hours in the airport waiting to fly back home to NC.

I am the only girl on the HOPE team for the year which has been a lot different than this past summer. This summer I lived in a house with a team of girls who were working along side me in serving and loving the poor and homeless. Now it is me and two other guys. At first I was really scared about how all of this was going to look. Where would I live? Would I feel alone? A lot of things about the unknown scared me. But in the midst of it all, I felt God telling me to trust him despite what I could and could not see and that he wouldn’t have brought me here if he did not have a reason and a plan.

Over the past 2 weeks God has definitely provided. I found a place to live. I have moved into a house with four other girls in a neighborhood called Old Louisville. All of the girls are around my age but at different places in their lives. Two are working and taking online college classes, one girl works at a battered women’s center and is taking classes, and the other works third shift. Not only did God provide a place to live but he also provided a community of believers and new friends with the girls that I live with. The guys on the HOPE team are awesome. I have really enjoyed getting to know them and working with them. I have also begun to get connected at the church we are attending. I went to a community group this past Tuesday and met a lot of folks. It says in Philippians 4:19 that “My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Since moving back to Louisville, he has provided above and beyond what I could have asked for.

Being back in the shelter has been great. My first day back, I was greeted by a lot of the guests that I had gotten to know this summer. We caught up on what had been going on in our lives over the past month. Since being back I have gotten the chance to spend time with Anna and have had the opportunity to have some really good conversations with her. I got to know her a little this summer and am getting to know her more now. She has a lot of questions about God and sin but most of her questions are about grace. We have had many conversations about how God would freely give us love and forgive us even though we have done nothing to deserve it. Anna is very honest about her struggles, which has challenged me in how honest I am with her and others. A lot of times I don’t have all of the answers and though she is the one asking me questions, I feel like I am learning a lot from her. Please pray for Anna. There are a lot of things from her past that she is dealing with and a lot of things going on in her heart and mind that she is struggling with. I can see God pursuing her heart. I feel like she desires a more intimate relationship with God, but at the same time she is struggling with trusting him.

I want to ask you to also pray for me. Please pray for relationships here at Jefferson Street. Pray for the friends that I have already made and for new ones. It is easy to be content with sticking with the people that I already know at the shelter and not getting to know new ones. Also, please pray about me getting connected with the church that I am going to. I really want to get involved and meet new people and even connect friends from the shelter to the church. I also wanted to ask you for your financial support. If you are able, please pray about supporting me financially in this ministry.

I am excited about what all God is going to do this year here and will be keeping you updated once a month. If you want to contact me about anything (questions, encouragement, or letting me know what is going on in your life as well) please feel free to contact me at lindsey.albertson@jeffersonstreet.org.

Sincerely,

Lindsey Albertson
