Patience and Baby Steps

There have been several opportunities for me to think about my future this week, which has been one of my weak areas, as I’m not sure what God is calling me to do in the future. The other day while I was doing devotions, I read over a verse that said “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.” (John 15:16). For some reason, God really spoke to me through this verse. First of all, the idea of being chosen specifically by a God who is in control of the entire world is a bit overwhelming – at first anyway. However, I know that God has specific plans for me that He will reveal in due time – even if it isn’t in my “due” time. The only thing that matters is that I live each moment in all that it can be. Reaching out to people, growing closer to God, and just bearing fruit that will last, as the verse says.

I have a lot of problems in waiting on other people’s time, and God seems to particularly enjoy making us wait on His time. However, I am seeing bits and pieces revealed each day, and I just needed the reminder that all is well and that he will guide me in the right direction if I allow Him to. One of my favorite verses says, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11)  Oh but the gloriousness of those plans yet to be revealed. My baby brother is learning to walk right now, and I imagine (since I’m not there) that each step is a tedious one but they grow firmer with practice. Right now all I need is to remember to take the baby steps and allow my Father to lead me where He wants me to go.
