So I’m not very good at blogs but so many amazing things are happening here that i really wanted to share it with you guys! 🙂 Working in a homeless shelter is not always easy. To be quite honest, I went home for Father’s day a couple of days ago and being back in a safe, clean environment was comforting. When I thought about going back to the homeless shelter this morning, I wasn’t quite looking forward to it. But God always has a way of surprising us! 🙂

It started out as a normal day today at Jeff Street. I was working in the closet with one of my team mates. Over the past few days, I’ve been praying for God to give me opportunities to talk to the women here at the shelter. It’s kind of a challenge because I’m always at a loss for words. I knew God was laying this on my heart for some reason, but I honestly had no idea how He was going to do it. Let’s face it. Generally speaking the men are more talkative around here so that’s who I usually talk to. God was calling me to reach outside of my comfort zone and initiate the relationships with these women. For me, only one word kept coming to my mind: SCARY! But I decided to trust God today and see what He would do.

There’s one of our women guests who I’ve felt drawn to ever since I came to Jeff Street. I always say Hi to her even though for the first couple of weeks I didn’t get much out of her.  Today she was dressed very nice, and since I’m a girl I know that girls love to be complimented. So as a sincere effort to encourage her, I complimented her on her outfit. She told me she had an interview in a couple of hours and that was the occasion for her outfit. I got really excited for her and told her I would be praying for her. I did. Later that afternoon I saw her again and asked her how it went. She told me she got the job! I was ecstatic for her! 🙂 I told her I was so happy for her and that I had been praying for her. In a sincere moment, she said, “Thank you. God bless you.” And then adorned me with a hug! I was so excited! It was my first hug! Hallelujah!!!! 🙂

Doors are opening and even though I’m not sure how I’m going to get close to and love on these women this summer, I know God has a plan and together we are going to break through!! 🙂
